Gus Coates 



Gus “G.W”. Coates, 87, of Springfield, passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at 
Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. G.W. was born on Tuesday, Feb. 
5, 1924, in Springfield. 

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ettie Lee and Theodore Travis; 
sons and daughters-in-law, Glynn and Paulette Coates, and Clay and Allie 
Coates, and their mother, Estelle Wilson Marcum; brother, Gordon Coates; 
grandchildren, Norma Lee, Kindra, Kai, Krista, Buffy, Dustin, Lacy and 
Heather; and great-grandchildren, Chelsie, Cody, Atticus, Devon, Hannah, 
Payton and Jaxon. 

He was preceded in death by wife, Mary Rainey Coates; parents, Gus and 
Magdalene Bignar Coates; grandson, Ashton Coates; siblings, Lessie Hill, 
Leslie Coates, Norman Coates, Hollis Coates and Esther Hill. 

Friends were received at Harry McKneely & Son, Hammond, on Monday with 
services in the chapel
