He was a retired operator with BASF. Mr. Corbin was born Dec 4, 1917 in Jena and grew up in Rochelle, Standard and Clarks. He graduated from Clarks High School with a scholarship in football. He went to SLI in Lafayette and graduated with distinction in 1942. He joined the US Army Air Corp and became an engineer-gunner on a B-17 of the 368th Bomb Squadron, 8th Air Force, based at Thurleigh, England. He was shot down near Cologne Germany on Oct 15, 1944 and spent the war in Stalag Luft 1. After the war he taught school at Clarks High School, and worked in the oil fields near Odessa, TX. After moving to Baton Rouge, he worked for Ward Oil Co. Baton Rouge Engineering Dept and Wyandotte/BASF from which he retired in 1979. He enjoyed squirrel hunting and outdoor bar-b-ques. He was of the Baptist faith. A private graveside service was held at Evergreen Memorial Park, Denham Springs, on Thursday, Sept 11, 2009. . He is survived by a son, a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, a niece and three nephews. Preceding him in death were his beloved wife of 68 years, Harrietta Cobb; his parents, Robert Calvin Corbin and Katie Edmonson Corbin; two sisters, Bertrease Andrews and Vera Beisner; and brothers-in-law, Harold Cobb, Maurice Andrews, and Hensel Jackson.
