He was 96. Visitation at Judson Baptist Church, Walker, on Monday, Sept. 29, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at the church on Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 9 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Merelin McCon. Burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his daughters, Zemly Nell Courtney Ervin and husband Joseph G., Mary Francis Courtney Higginbotham and husband Louis, Lodney Earline Courtney Vinyard and husband Herbert "Herbie" Jr. and Juanita Courtney Falks and husband Leslie; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Davis Courtney; parents, S.S. and Zemly Jones Courtney; four sisters, Addie Hall, Maggie Sibley, Doretta Rodriguez and Fannie Turner; two brothers, H.W. and Whitaker Courtney; and grandson, Joseph Ervin Jr. Arrangements by Seale Funeral Service Inc., Denham Springs.
