He retired from the Livingston Parish school system with 35 years of dedicated service as a bus driver. Mr. Cowart leaves behind his wife of 60 years, four daughters and two sons-in-law, a brother, Floyd Cowart; sister, Inez Young; 10 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. Preceding Mr. Cowart in death were his parents, Perry and Inez Cowart; brothers, Joe, Ellis, Wilford and Wilton Cowart; sisters, Lorena Schanil and Irena Boyd; and son-in-law, David Arceneaux. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, Hammond, on Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 10 a.m. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, Jan. 4, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until service time. The Rev. Robert Weathersby will conduct the services, assisted by the Rev. Joe Dunn and the Rev. Don Thursby. Interment in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. Donations may be made, in memory of Leroy Cowart, to North Oaks Hospice, P.O. Box 2668, Hammond, LA 70404. Arrangements by Brandon G.
