She was a native of Walker and a resident of Denham Springs. She was a retired claims processor with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She was a member of Walker Baptist Church. Visitation was at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs, on Tuesday and Wednesday until religious service, conducted by the Rev. Zack Winningham and Dr. Richard Blue with interment in Denham Springs Memorial Cemetery. Two daughters and sons-in-law, a sister, two grandchildren and their spouses, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews survive her. Preceding her in death was her husband, Forrest DeLatte; parents, John Wesley and Alice McDowell Avants; son-in-law, Leroy A. Cardon; three brothers, James, Norman and Bob Avants; two sisters, Ada Meades and Bessie Shaffet; and special brother, Pete Avants.
