He was one of 16 civilians killed aboard a Mi-8 helicopter that crashed just after take off. He was born Dec 11, 1985 in Baton Rouge and graduated from McDonogh High School in Pomfret, MD in 2004. He returned to Baton Rouge and was employed by Arkell International as a construction manager. John worked as a civilian contractor for the US Department of Defense in Iraq and Afghanistan. He loved music, especially the guitar, and mountain climbing and traveling. He had been to many places in his young life including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Jordan, Dubai, Iraq, Argentina, Chile, Canada, Hawaii, and several mountain ranges in the United States. Visitation was held at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs on Saturday, August 1, 2009 from 8 am until the funeral service at 10 am with interment in Evergreen Memorial Park. His mother and stepfather, a brother, a sister, his maternal grandparents, his father and stepmother, paternal grandmother, and his fiancée survive him. Preceding him in death was his paternal grandfather, Roland deMarshe.
