He was a native of Gonzales and was a US Navy veteran, serving during World War II. He was a graduate of Port Allen High School and worked as an operator at Ethyl Corp and retired from BASF Wyandotte Corp. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and American Legion Nicholson Post 28. Visitation was held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East in Baton Rouge on Thursday, Feb 25, 2010 from 5 to 9 pm and resumed on Friday, Feb 26, 2010 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park with military honors. His wife of 66 years, two daughters and a son-in-law, three sons and daughters- in-law, 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, and two sisters survives him. Preceding him in death were his parents, Florian J. and Annisette Young Gautreaux; two brothers, Shelton J. Gautreaux and Hewitte J. Gautreaux; and two sisters, Velda Gautreaux and Velma Babin.
