He was a native of French Settlement and a veteran of the US Army having served in World War II. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Williams Catholic Church. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 6753 in French Settlement. Visitation was held at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs on Monday, June 8, 2009 with rosary services and resumed on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denham Springs until Mass of Christian Burial with interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge. His wife of 67 years, two sons and daughters-in-law, a sister, five grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who were very special to him survive him. Preceding him in death were his parents, Fernand Leon and Anna Salassi Genre; a son, James Vincent Genre; two sisters, Anna Mae Henderson and Juliette Ellis; six brothers, Nolan, Joseph, Agile, Leon, Milbourne and Raymond Genre.
