He was born March 14, 1924 in Crystal Springs, MS and proudly served his country in the US Army’s 726th Railroad Battalion at Assam Valley, India during World War II. James “Skillet” worked 44 years with Illinois Central Gulf Railroad as a locomotive engineer. He loved laughter and will be remembered for his practical jokes on his friends. He also served throughout his career as president of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and benefits advisor to many fellow employees. He was a member of the Big R Club of retired railroad workers. James was an ordained deacon with Brownfields Baptist Church, served in Circle Baptist Church and was a member of Roster Road Baptist Church. Visitation was held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Friday, April 2, 2010 until the funeral service. His wife of 63 years, a daughter and son-in-law, two sons and a daughter-in- law, seven grandchildren, and two sisters and a brother-in-law survives him. Preceding him in death were his parents, Julius Rex Hall and Mable Aletha Rice Hall; a brother-in-law, Albert J. Ogden; and a daughter-in-law, Emily Bourke Hall.
