She was born in New Orleans on July 4, 1924. She was raised in New Orleans and lived in such places as Miami FL, Little Rock, AR, and McLean, VA. She attended the University of Arkansas. She was a homemaker, an avid reader, a recognized gourmet cook, a retired senior sales director for an international cosmetics firm and a part time model. She was a longtime stockholder in the Women’s Club of Baton Rouge, a former member of Our Lady of the Lake Auxiliary, first president of the Dixon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, charter member of the Denham Springs Country Club, charter member of Suburban Reviewers Book Club, “The Book Club”, Le Livre Book Club, Domestic Arts Club, and the Foundation for Historic Louisiana. She was an avid bridge player and a member of several bridge clubs, she was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge where she had been active in the United Methodist Women, Good News Sunday School class, the Care Team Ministry, and for a longtime served as the Wesley Group leader. For a number of years she and her husband attended the First United Methodist Church of Denham Springs where she was in the choir and worked with the vacation Bible school. Visitation was held at Greenoaks Funeral Home in Denham Springs on Sunday, Oct 18 and Monday, Oct 19, 2009 with interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. She is survived by two daughters, two sons-in-law, two grandsons, two great- grandsons, a great-granddaughter, a step-granddaughter, three step-great- granddaughters, a niece and nephew-in-law, two nephews, a brother-in-law and his wife, two sisters-in-law and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, James Pierce Harlan, Jr. who was of Baton Rouge and Jonesboro; her mother, Eliza Woods Griffith, who was of New Orleans and Little Rock; her father, Lafayette Fredrick Griffith, who was of McLean VA and Little Rock, AR; four half sisters; a half brother; her paternal grandparents, Charles Jefferson Griffith and wife Leona of Little Rock AR; and maternal grandparents, Flora Mae and Joseph Woods.
