He was born Nov 20, 1925. He received a BS in Forestry from LSU. He was a US Navy Veteran, having served in World War II. He retired in 1990 after serving 43 years with the USDA Soil Conservation Service. Mr. Holdombe had lived in Temple TX since 1971. He had also resided in Denham Springs, DeRidder and Lake City, FL. At The First Baptist Church of Temple Texas, where he was a member, he served as a deacon, and taught the singles class, sang in the sanctuary choir, and volunteered with the CLTC. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post #133, NARFE, and Xi Sigma Pi Professional Forestry Fraternity. A memorial service was held Monday Aug 17, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Temple. TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett A. and Viola (Dickey) Holcombe; Mr. Holcombe leaves behind his wife of 62 years, two sons and daughters-in- law; two daughters and a son-in-law; seven grandchildren; a brother and sister- in-law and former son-in-law.
