He was born October 13, 1934 and was a native of Independence and was a longtime resident of Greensburg. He was a proud member of Independence High School Class of 1953. He served on the Greensburg Town Council, as St. Helena Parish Constable, District 3, a member of the St. Helena Parish School Board and was sheriff of St. Helena Parish for 12 years. He was also a logging contractor and cattleman before becoming sheriff. He will always be remembered for his wealth of wisdom, keen sense of humor and his kind heart to all he met. Visitation was held at McKneely and Vaughn Funeral Home in Amite on Thursday, December 16, 2010 and resumed on Friday, December 17, 2010 until the celebration of life service, officiated by the Rev A.W. Quinn with interment following in Greensburg Cemetery in Greensburg. He was survived by two daughters, two sons, seven grandchildren, two sisters and a brother-in-law, a friend, numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family. Preceding him in death were his parents, Eugene and Susie Barber Holland; his children's mother, Betty Holland; and numerous brothers and sisters.
