Hazel graduated from Southeastern Junior College in Hammond. She taught for three years at 7th Ward School in Denham Springs and graduated from LSU in 1941 with a bachelor’s degree in education. She was one of the two remaining charter members of Grace Baptist Church in Baton Rouge and was very active with her church fellowship. Hazel was a beautiful Christian woman who lived her life for the Lord. She was kind to others and lifted everyone up around her in prayer. She was a great inspiration to her family and friends. Hazel didn’t just talk about her faith, but lived it. She found guidance and solace through the Holy Bible, and showed unconditional love. Hazel loved life and enjoyed the majesty of God’s creations. She had a great love for her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Hazel was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Visitation was at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Friday, and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Don Perkins and Dr. Kelly Fitzgerald. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery. She is survived by a son, daughter and son-in-law, a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, and five great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Henry E. Hopper Jr.; parents, George Hyatt and Florence Irene Tyler Miller; and brother, Alton Larue Miller.
