She died on Saturday, July 19, 2008, at her home in Denham Springs. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Monday, July 21, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting resumes on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until religious service in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m., conducted the by the Rev. Stan Wilson. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by two daughters, Melba Jane Hughes Nicolle, of Wilmington, N.C., and Glenda Hughes, of Clinton, Miss.; two sons, Robert "Bob" Hughes, of Burksville, Texas, and Rigel Hughes, of Denham Springs; brother, J.R. Gordon, of Denham Springs; five grandchildren, Bob Hughes, Tina Hughes, Dwayne Hughes, Hanna Weems and Haley Hughes; and two great-grandchildren, Amber Hughes and Hayden Weems. Preceded in death by her husband, Colmon Hughes; parents, Robinson and Mary Verona Gordon; and sister, Ruby Still. Pallbearers will be Richard Keen, Dick Wolfe, William Temple, J. R. Gordon, Benny White and Cliff McDowell.
