The late Rev. Velvon Laurent at Evening Star Baptist Church in Long Bridge baptized Lionel, affectionately called “Moonie,” in 1968. In September 2000, he united with Roberts United Methodist Church in Denham Springs. Lionel was a 1980 graduate of Cottonport High School. After high school, he joined the Louisiana National Guard. Visitation was observed at First Evening Star Baptist Church, 320 Swift St., Cottonport, on Friday. Visitation resumed at Roberts United Methodist Church, 201 Julia St., Denham Springs, on Saturday from 8 a.m. until the funeral service at 10 a.m., Interment was in Plainview Cemetery, Denham Springs His wife, a son, parents, sister, brother, and maternal grandmother survive him Arrangements were entrusted to MJR Friendly Service Funeral Home, Denham Springs.
