He was a native of Plaquemine and a veteran of the US Army having served on World War II. Retired owner of Custom Paint and Body Shop Visitation was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday Jan 15, 2009, with a recitation of the rosary and resumed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Denham Springs, on Friday Jan 17, 2009 until Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment was in Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd., in Baton Rouge. His wife, two daughters and sons-in-law, stepdaughter, two sons, two stepsons, brother, and his former wife, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren survive him. Four brothers, Victor J. Sr., Johnny J. Sr., Nicholas and Joseph La Porte Jr.; and parents, Joseph Sr. and Frances Passantino La Porte, preceded him in death.
