He was born June 17, 1935 in Logtown MS and was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War. He was a retired riverboat captian for more than 45 years and had worked most recently with Con-Agra, Southern Towing and Peavey. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends and cooking and family gatherings. He was dexterous, mechanically inclined and liked to tinker with and fix things. He was fun loving, quiet, loyal and charitable with no expectations. Visitation was held at Resthaven Funeral Home on Monday, May 11, 2009 and resumed on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 until services with interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. His wife, a son, two daughters and sons-in-law, two granddaughters, five sisters, and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews in Louisiana and Mississippi survive him. Preceding him in death was his mother, Abigail Giveans; his father, Wilbur Wallace McArthur; two brothers, Martin and Wilbur Joseph McArthur; and two sisters Dorthy Wilkinson and Barbara Ann McArthur, who were all of Perlington.
