She was a career woman all her life. She received a B.A. in education and a Masters in Social Work from LSU. After graduating she embarked on a 33-year career at the Louisiana Welfare Department, serving as the director of the East Feliciana Department of Welfare, director of the East Baton Rouge Department of Welfare and state welfare services director. She received the Charles Dunbar Award in 1961 and served on the board for the American Public Welfare Association representing the Southwest Region of the United States. After retiring from the Welfare Dept she served as the director of the Mental Health Association of Greater Baton Rouge. She was listed in Who’s Who in American Women. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Denham Springs, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and the Adult VI Sunday School director for many years. She was designated as a life member of the Salvation Army Board and the Mental Helath Association Board. She also served on the boards of Federal Emergency Food Shelter board, a charter member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary, and Council on Aging board, and the Denham Springs Historical Association. Services were held at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs Two daughters and sons-in-law; and four grandchildren survive her. Her beloved husband of 53 years, Harold F. Pitre preceded her in death in 1995.
