Leonard J. “Doc” Redden died at 2:14 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011, at his native home in Pride, surrounded by three daughters. He was 89, born Jan. 12, 1922. Leonard was known for his unconditional love and generosity. Christ lived through him and he led by example to provide a stable and consistent foundation for his friends and family. He loved raising a garden, cutting grass on the tractor and telling stories about his many life experiences. He was a retired employee of Copolymer. Visitation was at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Zachary, Tuesday and Wednesday until service, conducted by the Rev. Kevin Hand, assisted by the Rev. Chris Redden. Burial was in Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, of Walker, Pride, and of Baton Rouge; two sons and daughters-in-law, of Central, and of Osyka, Miss.; and a niece and nephew whom he reared as his children. He is also survived by five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Grace Chemin Redden; parents, Willie and Mattie Arnold Redden; grandson,Richard Lee Redden; 10 brothers and sisters; and a nephew, Jimmy Lee Spurgeon. Honorary pallbearers were L.J. Bankston and members of the Christian Motorcycle Association Chapter 369. He was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church and a former member and Sunday school teacher at Zoar Baptist Church, Central.
