He was born on July 23, 1946 in Hammond and was a 1969 graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University. He was overwhelmed by his recent honors, Phi Kappa Phi membership and election to the SLU Alumni Board of Directors. Spike was called to the ministry at an early age. A few years ago he heeded that call and was ordained as a Missionary Christian Alliance pastor. However, he felt his true ministry was with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes with whom he worked in Tangipahoa and Livingston Parishes. He was a teacher and coach at heart, having taught school and coached many teams; biddie ball, AAU and high School and he was a real “gym rat”. Spike was a licensed Realtor, a certified licensed underwriter owning his own TPA firm. He was co-founder and board officer of Generations Hospice and owned The Pretzel Twister in the Mall of Louisiana. He was a lover of music and played and sang in various bands and choirs throughout his life. He loved acting, in and out of the theatre. He was a pilot and loved flying. Visitation was held at McKneely and Son Funeral Home in Hammond on Monday, June 15, 2009 and resumed on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 until the funeral service with interment in Rose Memorial Park. His wife, two daughters and sons-in-law, two stepdaughters and a stepson-in- law, two stepsons and a stepdaughter-in-law, two brothers and sisters-in-law, two sisters and brothers-in-law, and eight grandchildren survive him. The family requested that memorials to be given to The Fellowship of Christian Athletes of Tangipahoa and Livingston Parishes or Generations Hospice in Denham Springs File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/livingston/obits/s/spangler4075gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/lafiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
