Mrs. Thacker was born Oct. 5, 1919, in Denham Springs to Joseph T. Heard and Winnie Cockerham. She was employed by Rosenfield’s Department Store as a photographer. In 1946, she was employed by the LSU Photographic Studio as manager/photographer for the LSU Gumbo, where she retired in 1984. Mrs. Thacker was the first woman to be awarded the Professional Photographers Association of Louisiana “Court of Honor” award. She was a Baptist and tithed faithfully. Visitation was at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, on Friday and at the funeral home chapel Saturday from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m., conducted by Brother Rick Pitcher. Interment was in Denham Springs Memorial Park. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Champ Thacker; her parents; daughter, Winnie Esther Thacker McNemar; great-granddaughter, Tristyn Truax; and her beloved companion, Matt Omari. Mrs. Thacker’s generosity, sweet smile and love of decorating will be missed by her surviving family; her eldest son and daughter-in-law, and their three children her younger son, much loved son-in-law, and his three children, 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous loved nieces and nephews; and a cherished niece.
