Vol. 3, December 1978 Originally submitted to the FSHR by Marietta Lambert Margueritte Helte Died 8 August 1825 Buried the same day Wife of: Paul Materne Daughter of: Michel Helte deceased and Margueritte Kerne deceased This death is registered in St. John the Baptist Church, Edgard, La., Funeral Book 3 and dated 11 August 1825. This act which is in the parish of St. Helena, Amite River, was registered on the testimony of Jean Louis Picou, (cemetery was on his land) Simon Brignac, Jacque Wicner and Jean Baptiste Wicner. She was buried in a place designated to serve as a cemetery there being neither church or priest. Mina Cure Margueritte Helte and Pierre Paul Materne were married 3 February 1818 in St. John the Baptist Church, Edgard, La., and their children were: 1. Margueritte Arsene Born 6 December 1818 Married Nicolas Guitreau, son of Paul & Josephine Vickner 2. Paul Born 22 March 1820 Married Eugenie Ory 3. Elisabeth Da Born 25 October 1821 Married Pierre Leopold Granon, Widower of Elizabeth Gauthreau 4. Octave Born 15 August 1823 Married Eleanor Guitreau, daughter of Paul and Manon Brignac 5. Ursin Born 29 July 1825 NOTE: This is the earliest known record of a burial in French Settlement Cemetery.
