Andrew L. "Sen" Sevier has practiced law in Tallulah since 1921 and is a member of the law firm

of Spencer, Sevier, and Adams. He we elected to the State Senate from the Thirty-Second District.

which includes Madison, East Carroll, Tensas, and Concordia Parishes, in 1932 and served as 

President of the Senate from 1948 to 1952.



Mr. Sevier was born in Tallulah November 9, 1894. He is the son of George Sevier and Florence 

Leonard Sevier. His father, a farmer, came to Louisiana from his native Mississippi at an early 

age. His mother is a native of Madison Parish. He was educated at Tallulah and took his Bachelor 

of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degrees from Louisiana State University in 1921.



During World War 1, Mr. Sevier served as a First Lieutenant of Infantry from January 1, 1918, 

to October 19, 1919. He married Miss Irene Jordan of Tallulah on September 15, 1918. They have

three sons: A. L., Junior, Howard S., and Warren J. A. L., Junior, and Howard run the Sevier 

Plantation and Warren J. is Manager of the Tallulah Finance Company.



Since 1927, Mr. Sevier has been a Director of the Farm Loan Association and also served as its 

President until 1950. He is also President of the Production Credit Association which was 

organized in 1934. He helped to organize and served as First President of the Rotary Club and 

is a member of the Tallulah Golf Club. He is also a Blue Lodge Mason and a member of the 

Presbyterian Church, which he formerly served as a Deacon.



For relaxation, Mr. Sevier enjoys watching sporting events.

MADISON COORDINATOR'S NOTE: Senator Andrew L. Sevier died in 1962. His wife, Irene Jordan 

Sevier ("Renie" to all, even her grandchildren), was appointed by Governor Jimmy Davis to fill 

his vacant Louisiana Senate seat, becoming one of the first ladies to serve in the Louisiana 

State Senate.  She was featured on the cover of the Baton Rouge social magazine, "The Register" 

and the caption and story was "The Senator is a Lady."  Senator Irene J. Sevier  was then 

elected to the Louisiana State Senate after her own campaign; she died in 1973.

 

His sons, Andrew L. Jr. (Ammy) died in 1995; Howard died in 1980 and Warren (Dotty) died in 1970.

All are buried in Silver Cross Cemetery at Tallulah.
