All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** The Ouachita Telegraph Friday, January 29, 1875 Page 2, Column 6 The Vicksburg Herald of Tuesday says that on Saturday night four negroes started from Delta to the old Brown & Johnston place, in a skiff, with a quantity of provisions. When a short distance from the shore, the skiff was discovered to be filling rapidly with water. The negroes, in endeavoring to make their escape capsized the skiff, drowning William Morton, Joe Kline and a negro girl named Philis. The other member of the party, a negro boy, succeeded in swimming ashore.
