All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Jennie Bauer Witherow - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Madison Journal, April 1938 Mrs. Witherow, Madison Native, Buried Tuesday Funeral services for Mrs. Joseph (Jennie) Witherow, a native of Madison parish, were held at the Silver Cross Cemetery here Tuesday morning, Rabbi Stanley Bray of Vicksburg, officiatng. Mrs. Witherow died at her home here Monday morning about eight o'clock, after having been in feeble health for some time. Mrs. Witherow was one of the few natives of this parish near her age. She was born December 1858 at Milliken's Bend when that place was a thriving village in the early days of Madison parish. Had she lived until December of this year she would have been 80 years of age. Her husband, the late Joseph Witherow was at one time a partner of Mrs. Witherow's mother, Mrs. Leopold Bauer, and they were engaged in an extensive planting and mercantile business at the Bend. The family moved to Tallulah from the Bend in 1914, but prior to that time Mr. Witherow opened the first store in Tallulah. Mrs. Witherow is survived by one daughter, Miss Etta Witherow of Tallulah. She had one son who died several years ago. She is also survived by a grand daughter, Miss Jane Morris Witherow of Lake Providence; two nieces, Mrs. Ed Lamberton of New Orleans, and Mrs. V. D. Richard of Jennings, La.; and two nephews, James Witherow of Galveston, Texas, and Milton Witherow of St. Louis, Mo.
