Daniel has been a resident of Morehouse parish, La., since his birth, being the second of a family of four children born to E. L. and S. E. (Reynor) Daniel, the former of whom was born in North Carolina and removed to Tennessee when about fourteen years of age, where he was reared to manhood and married. He removed with his family to Morehouse parish, La., in 1855, and here has devoted his attention to planting. He is still a resident of the parish and is in the enjoyment of good health. His wife died in 1860. Their children all grew to maturity and are still living: W. J., the eldest, is a planter of Morehouse parish; S. B. is also a planter, and Susan E. is the wife of B. L Goodwin of Jackson parish. J. L Daniel, the second of this family, was brought up to a knowledge of planting by his father, and upon starting out in life for himself it is not to be wondered at that it was as a tiller of the soil. His first purchase of land was fifty acres, to which his father added eighty acres, and by perseverance, energy and good management he has increased this amount to 1,240 acres, about one-half of which is under cultivation. His land averages about one bale of cotton to the acre and twenty-five bushels of corn. He is a live and progressive business man and raises large number of cattle and hogs. On his admirably kept plantation he raises sufficient stock and grain to furnish him flour, meal and meat throughout the year, and he is also the proprietor of a general supply store, which is situated at Gallion. He owns about $20,000 worth of property. In 1879 he was married to Miss Lou Renwick, and their home is noted for its hospitality.
