Most issues from the first of the year (volume VI, issue 6) up through October 9th (volume VI, issue 46) were available to this transcriber. Besides missing issues at the end of the year, the following issues were not available: 15 (Mar. 5th), 18 (Mar. 26th), 23 (Apr. 30th), 24 (May 7th), 32 (Jul. 2nd), and 37 (Aug. 6th). Each article mentions a death of a current or former citizen of Morehouse Parish. Before each article is a note indicating the date, page number, and column number where the article can be found. The Clarion was a weekly publication consisting of four pages, and each page had six columns. A post-note for each article indicates whether the transcription of the article shown is either complete (full) or abbreviated (abbr.). Note that some articles show the date as being either "ult." or "inst." The former, short for ultimo, indicates the day of the previous month. The latter, short for instant, indicates the date shown is in the current month. ********************************************** Copyright. Mr. Ross was an intense sufferer for several months prior to his death, but bore his sufferings with Christian fortitude and resignation. In the death of this truly good man the community has sustained a severe loss. He was extremely popular among all classes of people, and deservedly so, for he had a big, kind hear, that beat sympathetic to every call of distress. Peace to his ashes. (full) 6/11/1880 P3 C3 Last Sunday evening Mr. Levi Rogers, who lived in Gum Swamp, after having been absent from home all day, returned, unsaddled his horse, and, as he was in the act of stepping upon his gallery, he received in his throat and breast a huge load of buckshot from the gun of some unknown fiend. It is thought from the charge of lead found in his body that he died instantly. No clue to the perpetrator of this cowardly and atrocious crime could be elicited by the jury of inquest. We are sorry that such hell-hounds live in our parish, and we hope that in this case the old adage that "murder will out," may be fully exemplified. Mr. Rogers has many friends who deplore his tragic fate, and who are anxious to see justice meted out to the sneaking scoundrel who shot him down.
