The advertisements were made by the Morehouse Parish tax collector, Wm. P. Douglass, also the Sheriff at this time. The first sale occurred on May 7th, the second occurred on June 4th, and the third sale was on August 6th. The sales in June and August involved land that did not sell the first time around, so there are no new names in the later sales. Included also is a short article that appeared on June 10th showing the results of the sale. Note that the transcriber has elected to show only the name of the defaulting owner and the relevant amount of acreage (if given) for the land being sold. In some cases the land amount is not shown, but a calculated amount based on the description is provided. In most cases the newspaper included a full, detailed description of the property using the standard notation showing the section / township or the block / lot where the land was located. Many entries also included personal property (homes, farm buildings, household items, animals, etc.) for sale. The personal property is not shown here. An alphabetical index is included by the transcriber at the end of this file since the original advertisement was not in that order. ********************************************** Copyright.
