Funeral services for Mrs. Ruthie Lee "Granny" Allen will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop with Reverend Allen Eppinette officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop. Ruthie Lee Allen was born May 5, 1930 in Richland Parish to the late Hill Hudson and Sallie Middleton Hudson and she passed away on July 5, 2012 at Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop. She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Luther Allen, Jr.; a grandson, Jason Allen; and siblings, Alvin Hudson, Erma Thompson, and Odell Stevenson. Mrs. Allen was a retired Certified Nurses Assistant(C.N.A.) having worked for over twenty five years at Oak Woods Home for the Elderly, Morehouse General Hospital, and Garnier Clinic. She was also a former employee of International Paper Company. Mrs. Allen enjoyed cooking but her greatest love was her family and the time she shared with them and her many friends. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James Luther Allen, Sr. of Bastrop; her son, Donnie Allen and his special friend, Rita Rawls of Bastrop; seven grandchildren, Shellie Ray and her husband, Chris of Bastrop, Shana Hamrick and her husband, Chuck of Enterprise, Mississippi, Donelle Allen of Haile, Louisiana, Steve Allen and his wife, Melissa of Swartz, Louisiana, Sandy Gilmore and her husband, Jeremy of Sterlington, Louisiana, Elizabeth Allen of West Virginia, Miranda Allen of Bastrop; a sister, Faye Hilburn and her husband, Jack of West Monroe, Louisiana; three favorite daughters-in-law, Trudy Hight, Kathy McGuffin, and Carolyn Nix; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Serving as pallbearers are Chris Ray, Chuck Hamrick, Kaylon Brown, Tyler Allen, Steve Allen, and Daniel Johnstone. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Coley, Bobby Joe "B.J." Tyson, Jr., Lane Courson, and Michael John Courson. The family will receive friends Friday, July 6, 2012 beginning at 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.
