Henry Stone officiating. Services will be under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Anderson was born May 23, 1920 in Wilmar, Arkansas and passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013 in Houston, TX. Kathrin was one of nine children, four girls and five boys. Her mother, father, brothers and three sisters have gone to be with the Lord. Her sister Janeva, is her only surviving sibling. Mrs. Anderson was raised in the Bastrop area and attended school in Oak Ridge. During the war she moved to Houston where she and her sister, Janeva, worked in the animation plants helping in the war effort. She also became a beautician during that time and worked as a hair dresser. Kathrin was married only a short time during WWII and divorced soon after. She had no children. She spent most of her adult life in Oakland, CA where she worked in a bookkeeper/office personal position until she retired. She lived near her older brother, Wade and his family who also lived in Oakland, CA. Her visits to LA were few during that time of her life but family was always important. She was faithful to travel back home to LA to attend all family reunions, which were many. She was always glad to be home. After retirement, she moved to Houston, TX at the request of her bother in law, who had failing health, so she could be a companion and helper to her sister who had suffered a stroke. Her retirement years were spent as a caregiver and a devoted sister. I heard her say often when she became disabled…. “I was supposed to be the one giving the care…..”! Mrs. Anderson's niece, Nelda, says that she remembers her Aunt Katherin doing her favorite thing “fixing her hair”; most any time you walked in, you could catch her doing her hair daily. Although she had no hobbies, she did love to read magazines cover to cover. Being disabled and in a wheelchair, during her later years, she did all the communicating for the two sisters and was often filling out menu sheets and keeping up with times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. She was half of the whole, one mind and one body, together both sisters made a whole. She is survived by her sister, Janeva Maynard of Houston, TX; cousins, Rena Simmons of Pine Bluff, AR, Helen Ross and husband Carroll of Monticello, AR, Jewel Daugherty of Benton, AR, Ronald Daugherty and wife Kaye of Benton, AR, Carl Raymond Nelson and wife Louise of Crossett, AR; nephews, Bill Nelson and wife Judy of Clanton, AL, Jessie Nelson and wife Lyn of Pflugerville, TX, Kirby Nelson and wife Karen of Conroe, TX, Daryl Nelson and wife Lisa of Dallas, TX, Mike Nelson of Arlington, TX, Frank Pappas III and wife Michelle of Walnut Creek, CA, Leslie Nelson and wife Kristine of Winona, MN, Tim Nelson and wife Becky of Benton, AR; nieces, Nelda Shields and husband Roger of Longview, TX, Shirley Foote and husband Jeff of Hamburg, AR, Susan Nelson of Tyler, TX; sister-in-laws, Elizabeth Nelson of Conroe, TX, Shirley Nelson of Tyler, TX and numerous great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
