BENGE Graveside services for Mr. John Vernon Benge, Jr. 90 of Monroe, LA will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Lynn Cemetery in Archibald under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Bastrop, LA. John was born in Greenville, MS on December 31,1934 and passed from this life on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the LeGrand Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Bastrop, LA. John was a graduate of Greenville Mississippi High School and attended Mississippi Delta Jr. College where he played football and was inducted into it's Hall of Fame and played football and graduated from Mississippi State University where he was an All American and all SEC athlete. In the 1970's he opened and operated Mastercrafters Cajun boat plant in Winnsboro for about ten years until he sold that company. After that he drove for CTL out of Sterlington, LA until his retirement. Never one to stay idle he enjoyed the outside mowing his grass and just keeping up his yard in general. His favorite hobbies were woodworking and watching SEC football. John was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Winnsboro, LA He is preceded in death by his parents John Vernon Benge Sr. and Gladys Lawson Benge; his wife Doris C. Benge and a sister Beverly Barnes. He is survived by a son, John V. Benge III and wife Robin of Blanchard, LA; a daughter Melissa Allen and husband Steve of Monroe, LA. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Savannah Rowland and husband Matt and Kelsey McNeely all of Blanchard, LA and Tyler Allen of Sterlington, LA and Ainsley Allen of Monroe, LA and also by four great grandchildren, Mason, Presli and Cade Rowland and Miller McNeely. John is also survived two siblings-Ellen Pyle and Barbara Wagner along with numerous nieces and nephews.
