He was called Poppy by his devoted wife. Bobby was born to the parentage of Oliver King and Lucille Benton on December 1, 1953. At an early age he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Brother Benton was under the leadership of Bishop Robert L. Nichols Jr.- River of Life Church for 10+ years, he later served under Pastor Ralph Adams of First Step International Church. After becoming immobile Brother Benton joined the online ministry of Pastor Mike McClure of Rock City Church Atlanta. Bobby completed his formative education in Shreveport, Louisiana, graduating from Captain Shreve High School. Bobby's employment history includes-Bastrop Water Utilities, Bastrop La., Bank One downtown Dallas, Texas, City of Dallas Water Utilities, Dallas, Texas and he ended his employment at Mister Sweeper, Dallas, Texas where he remained until April 2025. When he was in between jobs, Bobby was a dedicated employee to Brother Murphy and employed as a caretaker for my Uncle Johnny Grant until he passed. Bobby met the love of his life at Bank One, where they both worked. They married on September 18, 1993, and were married 32 years, 4 months and 6 days. Bobby loved to cook, especially barbecue. He was good with his hands-fixing and repairing things, super big on family, could watch westerns all day, Co-Founder of Saturday Morning HOT TEA!, enjoyed music and never met a stranger. He didn't have to say he loved God, he showed it through his kindness and good works to all. He leaves to cherish his memories: wife of 32 years, Sandra Benton; daughter, Tonya McCall; son, Te'Norys Benton; grandchildren, Tamara, Calissa, Chanterria, and James; great grandchildren, Taylor, Elijah, Naluni, and Neveah; brother, Napolean Edwards (Kim); mother-in-law, Bethena Bryant; brother-in-law, Rickey Martin; sister-in-law, Rene Elder (Ced); special daughter-in-law, Tish Williams. He will be missed by a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, friends, coworkers and a very special friend for over 45 years, who was B Ray's caretaker until he passed, Henry (Hollywood) Campbell. Bobby is having a family reunion in heaven with those who transitioned before him: sons, Calvin and Alvin (twins); mother, Lucille Edwards; father, Oliver King; brothers, Lonnie Roy, Bonnie, and Richard; sisters, Gloria, Diane and special pet, Smokey.
