BRENT Funeral services for James “Jim” Wilson Brent Jr. 82, of Bastrop will be held Sunday, August 27 at 2 pm at Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Witt officiating. Graveside services will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bastrop. Visitation will be Saturday, 4-6 at Golden Funeral Home, Bastrop, La. Jim passed away Friday, August 25 after a lengthy illness. Jim was born on May 3, 1935 to James Wilson Brent Sr. and Jessie Evelyn Cobb Brent in Glenn Allen, Mississippi. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1954 while residing with his Aunt Ruth and Uncle Jesse Brent. He earned a football scholarship to Mississippi State College and transferred to Northeast Louisiana State College (now ULM) on a football scholarship, graduating in 1959. He received a Master of Education degree from Mississippi College in 1968. Mr. Brent was a retired educator having retired after 16 years at Prairie View Academy in 2001. He served a total of 42 years as a teacher, coach and administrator with a career spanning the parishes of Terrebonne, Plaquemines, Orleans and Morehouse in both public and private schools. Jim met and married his wife of 60 years, Alice McGough Brent, while both were students at NLSC. They had 3 children, 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was a member of Bonita Road Assembly of God where his son Jim serves as pastor. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Joseph Ray Brent and Michael Eugene Cummins. He is survived by his wife, his children James Wilson Brent III and wife Debra of Bastrop, Timothy Wayne Brent and wife Tracy of Chicago, Tamara Brent Green and husband Greg of Bastrop, and his sister Diana Fay Brent of Lakewood, Colorado. Granddaughters are Jennifer, Jessica, Tara, Rebecca, Scarlett, Tatum, Kelly, and Holly. Grandsons are Hunter, John David and Theodore. Pall bearers are grandson Hunter Green and grandsons-in-law Brent Armstrong, Kyle Sawyer, Randall Walker, Michael Peeler and Kory McLarrin. Honorary pall bearers are John David Green and Theodore Brent.
