Graveside services for J.L. Clinton "Clinton" Chain, age 82, of Bastrop, are 

scheduled for 4 p.m., Friday, May 21, 2004 at Beekman Cemetery with the Rev. 

Travis Roberts officiating. Interment will be at Beekman cemetery under the 

direction of Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop. The family will receive visitors from 9 

a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop. Leave condolences to the 

family at www.coxfuneral.com and any planned memorials may be made to the 

Disabled Veteran's Association.



Chain, a veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant in the Army Air Corps, 

died at his home Tuesday May 18, 2004. He was a former POW of the European 

Campaign.



A member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Beekman, he is survived by: five sons, 

Earl Chain and wife, Mary of Old River, Texas; Donald Chain and fiancee, Beth 

of Bastrop; Dale Chain and wife, Susan of Mobile, Ala.; Michael Chain and wife, 

Georgia of Bastrop and Clint Chain and wife, Phyllis of Grapevine, Texas; two 

brothers, Hardy Chain of Fort Worth, Texas and Carl Chain and wife, Lou of 

Bastrop; a sister, Dot Choate of Rolling Fork, Miss.; 12 grandchildren and 6 

great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Annie Bell Robinson 

Chain; his parents, Hance and Victoria Pearl Hickman Chain.



 

 

Pallbearers will be Jim Hemphill, Jimmy Hemphill, Jim Hardy Chain, Kevin Chain, 

Heath Chain and Bill Chavis. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Stevenson, 

Lester Montgomery, Crag Chain, Hans Chain, Andrew Chain, Brandon Chain and 

Collin Chain.
