Dale was born on August 7, 1946 in Lake Village, Arkansas to his parents, George and Helen (Smith) Chaney. The family lived in Warren, Arkansas until moving to Bastrop, Louisiana where Dale graduated from high school. Dale briefly served in the U.S. Army as a mechanic and driver in the military police from 1964 through1966. While enlisted, he achieved the rank of Army Specialist (SPC). Returning to civilian life, Dale worked as a Maintenance Multi-craft Journeyman Mechanic for International Paper, his employer for 44 years, his career spanning both the old and new Bastrop mills. He retired from International Paper in 2007. Dale's hands were skilled and his heart was generous. Dale enjoyed dirt track racing, working on cars, fishing, and going for a drive in his pick-up truck. Dale also loved being outdoors and observing wildlife. He loved his Momma, and was always eager to help anyone in need. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Chaney, as well as his older brother Sheldon Chaney. He is survived by his two beloved daughters: Julie Young and her husband, Marc Young; and Aimee Socha and her husband, Stan Socha; his sister, Carolyn Watters and husband, Ronnie Watters; four precious grandchildren: Ann Marie Chaney; Audrey Marsh; George Socha; and Jane Socha; as well as host of other relatives, friends and neighbors. Dale will be interred alongside his parents at Memorial Cemetery in Bastrop, Louisiana. The family will arrange a graveside memorial service to be announced at a later date.
