Cal Adams officiating. Interment will follow at the Hamburg Cemetery in Hamburg, Ark. under the direction of Cox Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be Friday, December 26th, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Melvin Eugene Craven was born March 3, 1929 in Huttig, Arkansas to the late Miles Harrison Craven and Sarah Farrar Craven. He died December 23, 2008 at the Oak Woods Nursing Home in Mer Rouge, Louisiana. A retired construction foreman, Mr. Craven was a member of the Cherry Ridge Baptist Church, an Army veteran of World War II, and a semi-professional baseball player. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lonnie Craven and Miles Harrison Craven, Jr.; and three sisters, Mary Craven Pennington, Helen Craven Jackson, and Trudie Craven Bedenbender. Mr. Craven is survived by his wife Inez Wyman Craven of Bastrop; two sons, Randall Craven and wife Sandra Craven of Columbus, Georgia and Terry Craven of Mer Rouge, Louisiana; two grandchildren, Christopher Knight of Homer, Louisiana and Jo Anna Craven of Denton, Texas; a sister, Frankie Craven Beard of Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers are Truman Hough, Jerry Goodman, Charles Dumas, James Cummins, Floyd Tubbs, and Charles Rider. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Cherry Ridge Baptist Church Adult Men's Sunday School Class and Rev. Ron Lowe. For those who wish memorials may be made to the Cherry Ridge Baptist Memorial Fund in memory of Mr. Melvin E. Craven.
