She passed away on June 21, 2019 in Ruston, Louisiana. Gertrude was the oldest daughter of the late W.L. Wooden and Eula Perkins Wooden. She is preceded in death by eight brothers and one sister. Gertrude married Levern Defee on December 19, 1944 . After 69 years of marriage he preceded her in death. They are once again walking hand in hand together. She is survived by her son Arthur, his wife Karen of Georgia, granddaughter, Nicole, her husband SFC Jeremy Neece and their daughter Olive of Louisiana, granddaughter Amy, her husband Eddie Cossio and their daughters, Nola and Emma of Georgia, grandson Joshua, his wife Susan and their son, Joshua, Jr., and daughter Ella of Georgia; her daughter, Carolyn Davis of Bastrop, Louisiana, grandson John, his wife Lisa and their daughter, Abigail, granddaughter Michele Davis and her daughter, Destiny all of Louisiana, granddaughter Renee, her husband Michael McIntyre and their sons, Alex and Connor of Alabama; and her daughter, Beverly McDonald of Bastrop, Louisiana, granddaughter Cassie, her husband CW4 John Wuensche and their children Charlotte and Jack of Pennsylvania. Mrs. Defee is the last surviving Founding Member of the Greenacres Baptist Church in Bastrop, Louisiana, a past- Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Sunny South Chapter #12, and former legal secretary for the late Judge Woodrow Wilson. Funeral services honoring the life of Nola Gertrude Defee will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop with Reverend Danny Hawthorne officiating. Committal services and interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 25th, beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers are Joshua Defee, John Davis, John Wuensche, and Bobby Wooden.
