At an early age Letha grew to develop a special love for Jesus Christ as her personal savior. She was an active member of pleasant Grove Baptist Church. There she was inspired by God's word continuing to live her life trusting God. As a child, she enjoyed the outdoors, riding her horse Kate, climbing trees with cousins and helping her parents in the garden in Downsville, La., Letha was truly a country girl at heart! Letha went to Union Parish training school (1952 Grad) in Farmerville, Louisiana and graduated from Grambling State University. Although she enjoyed reading different books, she had a gift for learning, She had many hobbies that included cooking, baking and entertaining was one of her gifts that she openly shared, Her master piece was "peach cobbler" and banana pudding that she often made for her church, family and friends. All of her desserts were truly delicious, and her coffee was better than Starbucks! Sister, Baby, Mae Mae, Lee, Grand Grand, Aunt Letha, Aunt Letha Mae, Soror, and mama were just a few names that she sometimes answered to. On the campus of GSU, Letha saw a sparkle in the eyes of a young man named LeVoie Thomas Emanuel who she married and devoted her love to for over 50 years. Together Letha and LeVoie shared a life filled with excitement. Letha and LeVoie married on January 27, 1959 Together Letha and Lavoie shared a life full of excitement! In 1968, Letha decided to attend Robinson Business College learning many skills that prepared her for the task of being a "great librarian" and a wonderful mother to Monica (Darnell Wright), Tonya (Rodrick Cole, Sr.), VeNita (Kelvin Trotter), LeVoie Thomas MarQuise Emanuel II, and Alfreddyius Emanuel. When Letha graduated from business college and Grambling State University, she begin her journey in the field of education for 35 years collectively in Lincoln and Morehouse Parish. Letha shared many fun days with family and friends living in Grambling, Louisiana. There were so many fun days with the distinguish ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho and other honorable organizations.
