He peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026, in Bastrop, Louisiana. Celebration of Life: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the Morehouse District Missionary Baptist Educational Association, 8420 Collinston Road, Bastrop, Louisiana 71220. Wake: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 16, 2026, at Tennant Funeral Home, 1423 E. Madison Ave., Bastrop, Louisiana 71220. JESSE was a proud graduate of Morehouse High School, Class of 1966, and a man whose life was deeply rooted in faith, service, and family. He was a devoted member of Ollie Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served in many roles over the years, including President of the Ollie Grove Choir, Sunday School Teacher, and President of the Usher Board. His dedication to the church and community reflected his servant’s heart and unwavering commitment to God. A hardworking and dependable man, Jesse spent over 40 years as a mechanic and parts sales representative with Advance Auto Parts. He also served his community as Vice President of the Morehouse Water System, Bastrop Fire Board, a school bus driver for the Morehouse Parish School Board for 27 years, and a truck driver, always taking pride in honest work and responsibility. JESSE found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved working on cars, reading his Bible, listening to the blues, and swing and step dancing. He had a special fondness for chocolate-covered cherries and fruitcake, enjoyed traveling, and cherished every moment spent with family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Harris and Teola Melton, and his siblings, Horace Melton Jr., Henry Harris Jr, Bobby Melton, and Gaylan Hall. JESSE leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 61 years, Bobbie Griggs; his loving children, Lenaye Jackson (Micheal), Bobette Williams (Ronald), and Montrell Griggs; his beloved grandchildren, Cheryce Moss, Ashley Armstrong, and Haley Jackson; sister, Minnie Chaffold; along with a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever hold his legacy in their hearts.
