Funeral services for Mr. Milfred C. Harper, Sr., age 85, of Bastrop, will be 
held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home with 
the Reverends A.J. Fulton, Dwight Fulton, and Jim Buie officiating. Visitation 
with the family will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the 
funeral home.

Milfred Harper was born September 26, 1923 near Oak Grove and he died Monday, 
May 4, 2009 after a sudden illness. He is preceded in death by a daughter, 
Mary Jo Oliver; a grandson Joseph Oliver; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle 
Buffington and Jordan Buffington. Mr. Harper was a dedicated member of the 
First United Pentecostal Church until his health began to fail. He was a 
retired Oiler with over thirty-six years of service with Texas Gas. An avid 
gardener, Mr. Harper loved working in his yard. 

A devoted husband, Mr. Harper is survived by his wife of twenty years, Dorothy 
G. Harper of Bastrop; two step-daughters, Billie B. Nolan and her husband, 
Greg of Bastrop and Linda B. Buie and her husband, Jim of Livingston, Texas; 
five chidren, Milfred C.(Mike) Harper, Jr. and his wife, Ann of Bastrop, Jerry 
Harper and his wife, Sally of Tyler, Texas, Billy Ray Harper and his wife, 
Sandra of Bastrop, Peggy Day and her husband, James of Bastrop, and Glenda 
Bixler of Roswell, New Mexico; three step-grandchildren, Todd Buffington and 
his wife, Ashley, Jaime Buie and his wife, Shannon, Jeremy Buie and his wife, 
Andrea; ten grandchildren, Hope Brady and her husband, Melton, Tonja Read, 
Misty Loveday and her husband, Brandon, Windy Duckworth and her husband, Alex, 
Carl Harper, Laura Harper, Chelsea Day, Chance Oliver and his wife, Macy, 
Laura Bixler, and John Bixler; five step-great-grandchildren, Nathen 
Buffington, Ashley Buie, Rozlyn Buie, Aaron Buffington, Joseph Buffington; and 
twelve great-grandchildren, Tyler Evans, Allison Evans, Thomas Read, Starla 
Read, Bradley Read, Garrison Loveday, Nolan Loveday, Alayna Duckworth, Austin 
Harper, Joseph Oliver, Mason Oliver, and Kaili Belle Gonzales.

Serving as pallbearers are Todd Buffington, Jaime Buie, Jeremy Buie, Joe 
Brodnax, Carl McGaha, and Donnie Goleman.
