Interment will follow at Mer Rouge Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Monday, June 8th, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. Odell Hodges was born near Laurel, Mississippi on June 3, 1928 to the late Hazel Walker Harrell and Steven Harrell. She passed away, surrounded by her family, on June 7, 2015 at Glenwood Medical Center in West Monroe. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Monroe Harrell, and J.S. Harrell and his wife, Floy Harrell, a sister, Agnes Johnson and her husband, Junior Johnson, and in-laws, Edward Hodges, Leon Hodges and his wife, Carrie Hodges, Ruby Taylor and her husband, Fred Taylor, and Jennie Mizel and her husband, John Mizel. Mrs. Odell Hodges was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Bastrop and a retired cafeteria manager with Morehouse Parish Schools. A native of Mississippi, Ms. Odell grew up in Richland Parish. She and her husband, Edgar, made their home in Mer Rouge, and it is where they raised their girls. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Hodges is survived by her husband of over 68 years, Edgar Hodges of Bastrop; her two daughters, Ann Minor and Jamie Sharpton and her husband, Jimmy Sharpton, all of Bastrop; five grandchildren, Chris Minor and his wife, Dawn Minor, of Monroe, Joel Sharpton and his wife, Kelly Sharpton, of Ruston,, Jena McKinzie and her husband, Sam McKinzie, of Shreveport, Jason Sharpton and his wife, Linda Sharpton, of Marshall, Texas, and Angie Harrison and her husband, Greg Harrison, of West Monroe; nine great-grandchildren, Michael Minor, Judah, Remy, Eutah, and Nola Sharpton, Clif McKinzie, Hunter Sharpton, Garrett Harrison, and Erin Harrison; a brother, Archie Harrell and his wife, Barbara Harrell; and a special cousin and friend, Mary Trichell. She is also survived by her in-laws, T Boy Hodges and his wife, Betty Hodges, Irvin Hodges, Earl Hodges and his wife, Maydell Hodges, David Hodges and his wife, Dianne Hodges; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Minor, Michael Minor, Joel Sharpton, Sam McKinzie, Jason Sharpton and Greg Harrison. Honorary pallbearers are Judah Sharpton, Remy Sharpton, and Clif McKinzie.
