There will be a time of fellowship after the service at the church. In Lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be made to The Gideons or a charity of your choice. Lonnie was born on Wednesday, April 22, 1942 in Bastrop, LA and passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026 in Vidalia, LA. Today we remember Lonnie, a faithful man from Acme, LA, whose life was built on hard work, service, and a deep love for the Lord. As a deacon at Acme Baptist Church, Lonnie didn't just hold a title, he served in every way he could. If something needed fixing, cleaning, or tending to, Lonnie was there. He loved the Word of God, having read his Bible through twice and already working on his third time. Lonnie believed in helping people. He accomplished this through his work with The Gideons, prison ministry, and as a longtime Friend of Bill W. He spent much of his life encouraging others and walking beside them through hard times. A farmer for over fifty years and a true jack of all trades, Lonnie worked with his hands and lived simply. Not only through farming, he spent many hours creating friendships and priceless knowledge working industrial turnarounds along the way. Above all else, Lonnie cherished his loving wife, Sandra, and was completely devoted to her, showing through quiet faithfulness and steadfast care the kind of love that anchored his life and their home. Lonnie loved his children and grandchildren deeply, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and could even name trees by their Latin names. He was preceded in death by his parents, LE "Buck" and Edna Hughes, in-laws, Willard and Julia David, brothers, Howard Hughes and his wife JoAnn, and Robert Hughes, and his nephew, Brad Hughes. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Sandra David Hughes of Acme, LA; daughters, Dr. Susan Paul (Phillip) of Monroe, LA and Beth Hughes of Acme, LA; son, John Hughes of Baton Rouge, LA; four grandchildren, Maranda Paul and Jenna Paul both of Monroe, LA, and Alhana Hughes and Simon Hughes, both of Baton Rouge, LA; brothers, Jimmie Hughes (Brenda) of Elizabeth, LA, and Louie Hughes of Plain Dealing, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. The Family would also like to thank the doctors and staff of RiverBridge Specialty hospital for the care they took of their father during his stay there. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmie Hughes, Louie Hughes, John Hughes, Phillip Paul, Michael David, Willard David Jr., Dr. Richard Russell, John Dennis Kelly, Steve Grantham, Randy Ray and Lonnie's nephews.
