The newspaper clipping was located in a family Bible. Lizzie Hornbeak is buried in the Church of the Redeemer (Episcopal) Cemetery in Oak Ridge, LA. A marker in remembrance of her first husband and two young daughters is in the same cemetery. “MRS. LIZZIE HORNBEAK was born at Farmersville (sic) La., Oct. 3. 1844. She was married to J.R. Callen on April 25, 1861, who died on Nov. 5, 1871, leaving three daughters, two of whom died in 1873, Mary Alice Felton being the only one now living by this union. After the death of her first husband, she married E.M. Hornbeak. To this union was born one son, James Benton. Sister Hornbeak was converted at an early age and joined the Presbyterian Church. Later, after moving to Mer Rouge, and finding no Presbyterian church there, she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. I have known Sister Hornbeak for the past three and a half years. She was a devout Christian, loved her church and her pastor, and was always present at the church services when her health would permit. She was a good mother, a good neighbor, and was loved by all who knew her. She died on March 30, 1923 of pneumonia. She fought a wonderful battle, she gained the victory, and she has gone to be with her Lord. Her Pastor, J.R. ROY “ [Note: E. M. Hornbeak was Elijah M.] Obituary of Elizabeth (Lizzie) Culverhouse Hornbeak Elizabeth (aka Lizzie) Culverhouse Hornbeak b. 1844 in Farmerville, Union Parish d. 1923 in Mer Rouge, Morehouse Parish The following obituary appeared in an unnamed newspaper.
