JR. MAYO D.R. Mayo, age 88 of Bastrop, LA, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital. He was born February 9, 1931 in Jones, LA, the oldest son of Dock Riley and Gladys Crenshaw Mayo. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Mayo and his wife played music at many of the local nursing homes during the 1980's and 1990's. In 1993, they began Mayo and Friends Christian Fellowship on the Old Bonita Road. He loved to take care of older persons (seniors). As a ministry to the shut-ins, he would record music and sermons and then deliver it to them. Mr. Mayo also enjoyed taking them out to eat. He was a lifelong farmer and partnered with his dad for many years. Mr. Mayo was a member of Hillview Freewill Baptist Church and later a member of Harmony Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughters, Janet Young of Crossett, AR, Brenda Frisby of Oak Grove, LA, Geraldine Goodson and husband Mark of Bonita, LA, Bonnie Sawyer of Bastrop, LA, and Theresa Harrison and husband Mike of Oak Grove, LA; sons, Alvis Mayo of Bastrop, LA, and Randy Mayo and wife Nancy of Oak Grove, LA; sisters, Clara Barthol and husband Laurie of Pioneer, LA, and Ella Mae Baugh of Little Rock, AR; brother, Harry Mayo and wife Billie of Jones, LA; thirty grandchildren, forty-one great grandchildren, fourteen great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Mr. Mayo is preceded in death by his parents, Dock and Gladys Mayo; wife, Sandra Mayo; daughter, Betty Cornelius; brother, Bobby Mayo; and three grandchildren. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Venoy Kinniard, Troy Crumley, O’Neal Watts, Bro. John Peters, David Hofford, and Larry Whitehead. Funeral services for D.R. Mayo, Jr. are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019, in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Stoffer and Rev. Allan Eppinette officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, March 8, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home.
