Gene Brown and Rev. John Kimball officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 21, 2015, from 6 PM until 8 PM at Golden Funeral Home and also a viewing from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at First Assembly of God in Bastrop on Thursday, October 22, 2015. The service in celebration of his life will begin at 2:00 PM Thursday and the casket will not be re-opened at the end of the service. Rev. McGough was an ordained minister who had been in ministry almost 50 years. He served in various ministries which included pastor, missions, child evangelist, director of LA District campground, with his most recent ministry being chaplain at Federal campgrounds across the country. He received many awards and recognition for various achievements throughout his lifetime, but they all pale in comparison to the greatest award he now enjoys for finishing his earthly race, which is the reward of heaven. Max went to be with the Lord at age 68, Saturday, October 17, 2015, on his 46th Wedding Anniversary. Rev. McGough was survived by his wife, Jane Schmaltz McGough; daughter, Michelle McGough Harris and husband Steven Harris; son, Chris McGough and wife Christina Haltom McGough; brother, Clarence Lindsay; grandchildren, Cade McGough, Kyelah McGough, Coleman Harris, and Clay Harris. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Lovert McGough and Opal Pauline Shockey McGough, and his brother, Darwin Eugene McGough. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Schmaltz, Jake Bangs, Tom Wells, Jerry Franks, Wayne Schreve,and Mikey Cheshier. Honorary pallbearers are Sidney Jones and Dakota Lindsay.
