Tim Post officiating. Interment will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday night from 5 - 7 PM at Goldens. Mr. Perry, a resident of West Monroe, and former long-time resident of Bastrop, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at the age of eighty-six. He was born in Bastrop, LA, on October 20, 1930. He graduated from Bastrop High School where he proudly played football for the Rams. He served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. George married Eleanor D. Puckett of LaVergne, TN, on November 15, 1952 and she accompanied him to Tokyo, Japan. George was a retired Captain at the Bastrop Fire Department where he served over thirty years, also, he proudly served as Commander for the American Legion Post 51. He and Eleanor were members of White Avenue Baptist Church and had several businesses together but they loved operating Perry's Skating Rink. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eleanor D. Perry; children, twins Brian and Bruce Perry, Donna Perry Kemp and husband Steve; grandchild, Taylor Kemp and he considered Joshua Buckley son of former Sheriff Bob Buckley and Janet Buckley to be his honorary adopted great grandson. Mr. Perry is preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Betty Perry; brothers, former sheriff Huey Perry and Houston Perry; sisters, Bernice Kraker and Thelma McCraw. Serving as pallbearers will be Gerald Wallace, Olin Haynes, James Spence, Frank Williams, Rodney Posey, Danny Barmore, Bubba Boyd and Ted Grimes. Honorary pallbearers will be all retired and active Bastrop Fire Department employees, Bobby Haynes and James "Buddy" Williams. Mr. Perry's family kindly requests that any memorial contributions be made payable to Bubba Boyd, 1602 Woodland Place, Bastrop, LA 71220. Proceeds will be used to assist and benefit local firemen, a group that Mr. Perry loved being a part of.
