He is survived by his precious wife of 38 years, Carolyn Savage Pipes, his daughter Chesslye Pipes and son-in-law Rickey Brister, sons Matt Nicolle and daughter-in-law Jennifer, Jeff Nicolle and daughter-in-law Gabrielle, Scott Nicolle and daughter-in-law Andrea, Lane Pipes and special friend JD Crockett, grandsons Riley Smith and wife Prestin, John David Pipes, Zane Pipes, Harper Nicolle, Nolyn Nicolle, Jack Nicolle and Hank Nicolle, granddaughters Gracie Claire Brister, Madelyn Brister, Emma Kate Layton, Norah Nicolle, Leighton Nicolle and Zoe Pipes, his sister Susan Pipes Justice and brother-in-law Ed Justice, and nephews Daniel, Justin, and John Justice. David is preceded in death by his loving parents David Washington and Flora Kate McDuff Pipes. David and Carolyn created a loving and supportive life for their five children and instilled in them the values of faith and family, the care and stewardship of his "little slice of heaven on earth" at the family home place, and a strong work ethic. David graduated from Collinston High School in 1967 where he was well known for his time on the basketball court. He earned a full scholarship to Northwestern State where he played basketball for a year before coming home to begin his career at Pipes Tractor Company (now Farm Supply Center), a small business his father began in 1966, and later entrusting it to the third and fourth generations of his children and grandchildren. David had a love for the outdoors and natural world and was an avid beekeeper, passing along his passion and attentiveness to his children. David served as President of the Board of Directors at Reily Memorial Methodist Church and Fire Chief of the Ward 8 Fire Protection District in Collinston. He was a founding member of Reily and Friends and shared his special talent of song with anyone who would listen and encouraged them to sing too. David lived every day not taking for granted the blessings and knowledge he received from family and community members that came before him and every day he soaked up the beauty of the land he knew and loved intimately. David always chose to see the good in people and in life and generously shared his compassion and his wisdom with everyone he met. The family would like to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers throughout this journey. We truly felt each and every one of them. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to King's Camp, PO Box 335, Mer Rouge, LA 71261, or a charity of your choice. Family and friends will gather for a time of fellowship and visitation on Monday, September 8, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. Services celebrating and honoring the life of David will be held with family and friends at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 20th, at the Pipes home in Collinston, Louisiana.
