RANKIN THOMAS "TOMMY" HUGH BLYTHE RANKIN, JR COX FUNERAL HOME BASTROP, LOUISIANA Thomas Hugh Blythe Rankin, Jr. was born on May 2, 1938, in Bastrop, Louisiana and he died on October 11, 2025 in Mer Rouge, Louisiana. He was a longtime resident of Mer Rouge, Morehouse Parish, Louisiana. Tommy's parents were Thomas H. B. Rankin, Sr., and Sara Jane Williams Rankin. His maternal grandparents were Alex Norwood Williams, Sr., and Mary Emma Davenport Williams of Mer Rouge, Louisiana. His paternal grandparents were Edgar Rankin and Mary Frampton Rankin of Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania. Tommy is survived by his brother Alex Williams Rankin and his wife Shelley, his niece Dr. Sara K. Rankin and by many cousins in both the Williams Family and the Rankin Family. Hie is preceded in death by his wife, Gayle Williams Rankin. Tommy graduated from Mer Rouge High School in 1956 and from LSU in 1961. While at LSU he joined Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. After college, Tommy returned to Mer Rouge and farmed with his father, and after his father's death, he farmed on his own for many years. He also worked part-time at the Morehouse Gin and Elevator Company for several years. Tommy was a lifelong member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Mer Rouge and served on the Vestry on several occasions. He attended church faithfully every Sunday for 80 or more years, when he was physically able to do so. Tommy was a member of the Mer Rouge Lions Club for 65 years and served as its secretary for most of those years. He also served for many years on the Board of Directors of both the Morehouse Farm Bureau and Oak Woods Home. He was an avid sports fan, rooting especially for the LSU Tigers and the Cleveland Indians. The family thanks the Oak Woods Home in Mer Rouge and Premier Hospice for their taking caring of Tommy during the last six months of his life. Services for Tommy will be conducted by Rev. Dawnell Stodgill at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Mer Rouge on Thursday, October 16th, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation being the same day beginning at 10:00 a.m. Serving as pallbearers are Dr. Norman Williams, Ed Lane, Allen Spires, Jr., George Spires, Joseph Spires, and Sam Spires. A private interment service at the Mer Rouge Cemetery will be under the direction of Cox Funeral Home. For those who wish, the family suggest planned memorials be made in Tommy's memory to either Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, P.O.
