ROGERS Funeral services for Mr. Dale D. Rogers are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Bastrop, LA with Rev. Jim Ingram officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 5, 2014 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Rogers, age 90, a resident of West Monroe, formerly of Bastrop, passed away Friday October 3, 2014 in Monroe. Mr. Rogers was born December 4, 1923. Dale was a resident of Bastrop until 2012 when he and his wife, Lola, moved to West Monroe. He graduated from Bastrop High School in 1940 and then joined the United States Navy. Dale was a decorated Veteran serving in World War II aboard the USS Zane and the USS Butte in the Pacific Theater beginning with the Philippine Liberation until the Battle of Okinawa at the end of the war. He was in every invasion with the exception of Midway. He was discharged from the Navy as Radarman First Class in 1946. After returning home from the war, he attended Draughn's Business College in Jackson, MS. He then worked for International Paper Company, Louisiana Mill for 40 years as payroll supervisor. During his retirement, he and Lola enjoyed many years traveling the United States in their RV, fishing, Tuesday game night with their friends at First Baptist Church, in Bastrop, and spending time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Bastrop, where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of Gideon International. When he moved to West Monroe, he joined First Baptist Church, West Monroe. Mr. Rogers is preceded in death by his parents, T.B. and Dena Rogers; two sisters, Ouita Edwards and Joyce Andrews. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lola Mae Rogers; two daughters, Mary Dale Scoggins of West Monroe, LA, Kathy Raines of Houston, TX; the joys of his life, three granddaughters, Laura Achord and husband Brent of West Monroe, LA, Stephanie Dowdy and husband Jon of Howell, MI, and Lisa Raines of Houston, TX; four great grandchildren, Austin, Mary Blake, Grayson Achord and Emmett Dale Dowdy, and Many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Serving as pallbearers are Jerry Ball, Rodney Dew, Charlie Peterson, Byron Rogers, Percy Hunter Rogers, Jack Scoggins, Terry Williams and Mike Wooden. Honorary pallbearers are Raymond Westbrook, Louis Floyd, Larry Rogers, members of the Ambassador's Men's Sunday School Class at First Baptist, Bastrop, and New Directions Life Group at First Baptist, West Monroe. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Carter Cox, Dr. Greg Green and Dr. Mike Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon's International, First Baptist Church of Bastrop, or First Baptist Church of West Monroe.
