She passed away peacefully on the evening of January 6, 2026 at The Columns of Bastrop. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dunnam Self; her parents, Dovie White Gregory and George Elec Gregory; a granddaughter, Rachelle Leigh Stewart; two sisters, Charlene Hall and Gloria Jean Thurman; and six brothers, George Oliver Gregory, James (Rawhide) Gregory, Alfred (Tall Boy) Gregory, Robert Gregory, Ernest Gregory, L.D. Gregory, and Edward (Hoss) Gregory. Catherine, as she was known by family and friends, attended Loch Arbor Baptist Church. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked many years in home health, at Morehouse General Hospital, and for Dr. Carter Cox. Mrs. Self was an avid flower gardener and enjoyed the many hours working in her flower beds. She was known for her immaculate yard and landscaping. Spending time in the outdoors brought her many hours of happiness, peace, and contentment. Mrs. Self is survived by her daughter, Amanda Holmes and husband, Danny; her son, Bruce Stewart and wife, Jessica; and her two grandchildren, Avery Holmes and Hunter Stewart. She is also survived by three sisters, Virginia Ann Townsend, Rita Nelson, and Brenda Riles and husband, Doug; her brother, Louis Gregory and his wife, Jerri; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM onThursday, January 8, 2025 at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. Funeral services celebrating and honoring Catherine's life will be 10:00 AM Friday, January 9th, at Loch Arbor Baptist Church with Reverends Stan Wyant and William Sikes officiating, followed by committal service and burial in the Loch Arbor Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. Serving as pallbearers for Mrs. Self are Scott Hall, Wes Gregory, DeWayne Gregory, Roy Franklin, Tink Newell, and Scott Self. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to all the staff at The Columns of Bastrop for their care and attention shared with their mother during her stay at The Columns.
